This course provides a hands-on introduction to the foundational principles of machine learning and artificial intelligence, framed entirely within the context of chemical science. Using the textbook Foundations of Machine Learning for General Chemistry and the accompanying COBBERLEARNCHEM software suite, students will move beyond theory to build, train, and critique predictive models. The course emphasizes developing practical skills, data-driven intuition, and a strong ethical framework for the responsible application of AI in science. The goal is not to create computer scientists, but to empower the next generation of chemists to be more effective, modern, and capable scientists in an AI-augmented world.
